Updates

Ok so as you can see, I don't write to this blog at all. I'm in the process of putting together a professional blog on Word Press. It is carrying on my concept of Original Worlds however it is much more professional and thought out.

I just thought I would put up a little notice of what has happened in my writing career over the past year.

I returned to Uni as a Part Time Student having sealed a job as a Copywriter and Email Marketeer for an Online Makreting company. So I now get paid to write and send out emails to people, brill. It's not all glam and quite often hard work, but I do enjoy it.

Working in this environment has given me some really powerful knowledge in online marketing and the development of websites etc. which is why I decided to start my Original Worlds project again with my new found knowledge.

I'll put a link up on here when I launch the blog.

I hope you are well and having fun.

First English Assignment Done

Greetings all.

One of the modules I take on my English course is 'Narrative: Literature and Film'. I really enjoy this module as it looks at the development of Narrative (Narrative being What the story is and then how the story is presented). Anyways, my Narrative seminar is on Wednesday and my tutor informed us that our first Formative Assignment was due in today - today being friday.

Now it's not all that of a biggie in that this assignment is more for our Tutors benefit to see where our skill levels are and if we need any help with anything in particular.

For the assignment I had to write two 500 word essays comparing 2 video's and then compare 2 pieces of text. It took me 49 minutes and 38 seconds - it was all done online timed. So yea, I am pretty chuffed with myself, I am quite confident that I managed to waffle on well enough to complete the brief.

I thought I would just give a bit of an update with my course.

Keep safe, have fun and God bless

World Builder Strikes Again

I am rather chuffed at the moment. For the past 4-5 years I have slowly -sometimes very slowly- been building my own fantasy world. Now building a fantasy world is all well and good but unless you have some way of getting the audience in to your world then it is nothing but a fictional place in your mind.

So the 'user experience' has always been something I have pondered about. With writers the usual way for someone to immerse themselves within your world is for you to write a novel, or a series of short stories. Such as what JRR Tolkien and JK Rowling have done with their novels, who by the way I do believe are two of the best 'World Builders'.

Taking this path up on myself I decided to write my own novel, as I am sure many people do or intend to do at some point. However, after the first chapter or two I soon began to realise that I didn't really know an awful lot about my world. It just wasn't a 3D place that I could visit. I needed to get it in my mind. The result was that I begun to develop the world history along with maps for the world.

Anyways, I am getting to my point, I decided that making myself a HUGE world map would be a cool project to do. So I drew one of the continents over a few pieces of A4 paper. The problem was that I didn't have any big sheets of paper to draw on, then when I did have big sheets of paper I lost my initial sketches as such I never produced the HUGE world map.

I have now found the initial sketches!!! Whoot, yea. I was so happy when I found them. The HUGE map is in the process of being made and I am going to re-open my 'Creating Original Worlds Blog' to follow the production of this map.

Please feel free to go over and have a read of the blog. It can be found at the following link:

10 tips for dating a Writer

I must admit I can not remember how it is that I stumbled across this rather charming article but I do indeed love it.

Link to the Tips

This article made me chuckle greatly. The writer has really nailed it on the head with some of the points. Genius.

I am sure the other writers out there will appreciate this as much as I do (and those who date or know writers) but everyone else will probably think I am just a loony, ah well, so it is to write!

Please head over to the link and have a chuckle for yourself.

Welcome to my Writing

Greetings all,

I would like to welcome you to the first of what I hope will be a barrage of many posts charting the rise -and falls- of my career as a Writer. This blog may also include articles or pieces of writing I have done. In all honesty I am not too sure how the blog will develop it's self, I am kind of just going with it and seeing where it takes me.

There are a good few reasons why I have started to write this blog. Primarily I need to become more disciplined with my writing, as such I will produce at least one blog a week though I will aim to put at least something up every day. I hope through this that I will develop a good writing pattern; time will tell.

Secondly this moment in time seems to be one of those crucial development points in my life. This Sunday will see the first Sunday that the local church I attend enter's into it's new 2000 seater building. It is an incredible time in the life of the church. In fact tonight was the first time I had been into the building and well... WOW. It's amazing, but I might post something up on that later on.

Also come Monday I will be starting a new degree at University. This degree is English with Creative writing and I do believe I have to keep a writing log for one of the modules, so I figured I may as well begin now. Look out for a blog with regards to my first day come Monday. Eekers. I am soo excited.

So yea, I guess those are the main things that are happening in my life at the moment. Oh and the fact that I entered my first Writing competition last month. The Arvon Foundation's Poetry competition, top prize is £5k which would nicely pay for my University tuition fee's. So I am most certainly praying that I win something as I am fairly skint at the moment and dont have any money to pay for my tuition fee's, kinda trusting God on that one.

If anyone has a job for a prospective writer or even fancies paying for my tuition fee's then by all means get in touch hehe ;)

How rude of me, it has just occured to me that I have begun rambling on to you without any formal introduction of myself. I am Nate, it is a pleasure to meet you all. The last two years of my life have been occupied with studying Computer Games Technology at the University of Huddersfield. The degree finished this summer so I now have an FdSc in Compter Games Technology, oh yea, I sound geeky now. Got to love the geekyness!

My hobbies include writing and video games -quite obviously- as well as playing percussion, riding my motorbike and boxing. I do have a few other things I enjoy occupying myself with, such as day dreaming, but those are the main 5.

In person I'm not much of a talker, yet it seems when ever I sit down to write something I can just ramble on and on and on. To which I do appologise in advance.

At this very second in time I can not think of anything else I need to introduce so I shall get to finishing this post. I do hope you enjoy what wierd and wonderful things I will post up in the future, but for now I wish you all a great day and pray that I do get some readers hehe.

Please do leave comments with questions or... comments.

Keep safe, Have fun and God bless
